It is traditional to offer a puja to the Ancestors, called the Shraddha Puja, during the time of Pitru Paksha. As special food and mantras are offered for the journeys of the souls of our loved ones, we are able to strengthen our connection with them, heal any unresolved issues, and provide them with spiritual nourishment and fortitude.
In doing so, we also invoke blessings from our ancestors for auspiciousness in all areas of our own lives.
During this sacred ceremony, you will have the opportunity to see the Brahamins offering auspicious items on your behalf, hear the exquisite Vedic chanting, reflect on the best qualities of your loved ones who have passed and identify the blessings and good fortune they have brought to your life.
This puja is performed by a team of Brahmins, led by Shri Vedamurti Vivek Godbole, who will explain important elements of the puja as they are performed to help you more fully understand and engage with the tremendous power of this sacred ceremony.
As you watch, will also have the opportunity, if you choose, to participate in mental offerings to your Ancestors. As the Brahmans chant mantras and offer auspicious items, you can visualize your Ancestors before you and mentally direct the offerings to them. You may also wish to have a written list of all your Ancestors and/or have their pictures in front of you while you watch the puja. This can be done from almost anywhere and is a beautiful expression of love, connection and blessings.
The availability of this puja will not expire. You can continue to participate in the coming weeks and months.
Auspicious times to participate:
1. During Pitru Paksha (the fortnight dedicated to honoring the Ancestors each year)
2. On the day of the new moon, each month (finish by 12:00 pm in your time zone).
